Spring 2023 Junior Fellows

Bruno Almeida is a last-year undergraduate at American University’s School of International Service studying Peace, Conflict, Global Security, and Global Governance. Under previous internships, Bruno has helped write political ads for state and federal-level democratic congressional candidates, conducted election research, and drafted compliance reports vetting companies and executives for Fortune 500 clients by conducting Portuguese and English language research. He hopes to eventually work in government affairs.

Kylianne Broughton is second year studying Data Sciences and International Studies in American University's School of International Service. Within SIS, she focuses primarily on the International Political Economy and Global Sustainability. She is particularly interested in the ethical development and deployment of AI in both sustainability and cybersecurity contexts. Outside of the Lab, she’s a part of AU’s Community-Based Research program and works in product development for a nonprofit software startup.

Sajid Khan is a senior at the American University School of International Service where he is a member of the Global Scholars Program. HIs main focuses are in global development and environmental sustainability and regional focuses in the Middle East and South Central Asia. After working for a development NGO in Jordan, he wants to further his understanding in economic development within developing countries and the interconnected roles of private and public sector within the development field and eventually wishes to work for a development firm after graduating. Outside of his studies, Sajid is a member of Consult your Community, a club at AU where students work to assist small businesses in growth. In his free time, you can find him outside doing photography or playing tennis. 

Juan P. Villasmil is an undergraduate student at American University’s School of International Service focusing on national security and development. He is currently in the Heritage Foundation’s Young Leaders Program working for the Technology Policy Center. Aside from his interest in the tech sphere, J.P. writes about political philosophy, global affairs, and Gen Z issues. His work has been featured on The National Interest, RealClearWorld, The Wall Street Journal, Fox News, Telemundo, MSNBC, and others.

Emma Viscount is a current first-year at American University’s School of International Service. She plans to focus on Foreign Policy and National Security as well as Peace, Global Security, and Conflict Resolution with a regional focus on the Middle East. Her interests include Internet Governance, Military Strategy, Human Rights, and Interfaith Dialogues.

Spring 2022 Junior Fellows

Sonia Saini is a junior at the American University School of Public Affairs. She is studying Data Science for Political Science, as well as Interdisciplinary Studies (Communication, Legal institutions, Economics, and Government). She is extremely interested in the ethics side of data collection, and hopes to pursue a career in the intersection of technology and public policy. Outside of the Lab, she is an Event Manager for the Kennedy Political Union, a reviewer for the undergraduate research journal “Clocks and Clouds,” and an intern at the U.S. Department of State. In her free time, she enjoys photography, music, and trying new restaurants in D.C.!

Quentin Stalker is a first-year undergraduate student at the American University School of International Service where he has taken a special interest in Russia and Eastern Europe. His interests include advancing progress towards internet universality, the modern wave of democratic backsliding, and the culture and philosophy of conflict. He is also a staff columnist at the American University Eagle.

Alisha Chhangani is an undergraduate at the American University School of International Service where she is a member of the Global Scholars Program. At SIS, Alisha is interested in focusing on the regions of South Central Asia and Latin America with a potential minor in Spanish. She also hopes to study foreign policy, global governance, and religion. Her interests include Internet governance, social justice, and journalism. In her free time, you can find Alisha reading, drinking tea, or with her dog.

Walker Evans is an undergraduate at American University's School of International Service where he is a member of the Global Scholars Program. He plans to focus on Foreign Policy and National Security as well as Global and Comparative Governance. He is interested in Cyber Security, historical influence on contemporary foreign policy, and the relationship between political and religious issues. He hopes to eventually run for elected office.

Kathleen Scoggin is a current second-year undergraduate student at American University’s School of International Service studying human rights and global development. Her interests include the digital divide, artificial intelligence, cyber security and Internet policy. She also writes for the International Law and Immigration Column for American University’s Pre-Law Journal, Juris Mentum.
