Internet Governance Lab Faculty Fellow Dr. Aram Sinnreich has authored the Policy Briefing Note An International Approach to Data Privacy published by the Center for Media and Social Impact at American University's School of Communication. In the wake of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and recent events which have unfolded surrounding Facebook and Cambridge Analytica, this policy brief argues that an international approach to standardizing and coordinating data protection policy is key to restoring data security.
The policy brief is an outcome of ongoing research conducted across schools and research centers at American University which aims to understand the increasingly central role of data in our public and civic lives.
