IGL Spotlights "AI in Action" HICSS-59 Workshop

The American University Internet Governance Lab (IGL) is pleased to highlight a half-day workshop at the 59th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS-59). It will take place January 6–9, 2026 at the Hyatt Regency Maui. The Symposium, Workshop, and Tutorial (SWT) session AI in Action: How We Teach, Use, Govern, and Secure AI,” will convene thought leaders from academia, government, and industry to examine the evolving role of AI across education, application, governance, and security.

The workshop, scheduled from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, will feature four interactive sessions structured around expert panel discussions, moderated dialogue, and audience Q&A. Each 75-minute session will be followed by a 15-minute networking break, allowing time for meaningful exchange and cross-sector collaboration.

The workshop was proposed by Dr. Karen I. Matthews, Recanati-Kaplan Fellow at Harvard University, with support from Dr. Derrick Cogburn, Director of both IGL and the Institute on Disability and Public Policy (IDPP), who helped organize and advise on the session. This event reflects IGL’s continued commitment to fostering inclusive, interdisciplinary approaches to emerging technology governance.
