The American University Internet Governance Lab is excited to announce the upcoming launch of Geopolitics at the Internet’s Core, a new book by Fiona M. Alexander, Dr. Laura DeNardis, Dr. Nanette S. Levinson, and Dr. Francesca Musiani. The event will take place on September 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM in Car Barn 311 at Georgetown University, moderated by Dr. Derrick L. Cogburn, Faculty Co-Director of the Internet Governance Lab.
Published as part of the Information Technology and Global Governance series by Springer/Palgrave, edited by Dr. Cogburn, Geopolitics at the Internet’s Core explores how the Internet Protocol (IP) has become a central element in global power dynamics, influencing geopolitical conflicts and policy debates. It examines the evolution of IP and its role in shaping the future of global governance.
The authors bring extensive expertise in internet governance and policy. Dr. Laura DeNardis is the Endowed Chair in Technology, Ethics, and Society at Georgetown University and Director of the Center for Digital Ethics. Fiona M. Alexander is a Distinguished Policy Strategist-in-Residence at American University’s School of International Service and Distinguished Fellow at the Internet Governance Lab at American University. Dr. Nanette S. Levinson is a Professor at American University’s School of International Service and Faculty Co-Director of the Internet Governance Lab. Dr. Francesca Musiani is a Research Professor at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and Deputy Director and co-founder of the CNRS Center for Internet and Society.
