Applicants should have a PhD in Communication, Media Studies, Science and Technology Studies, or a related field. Tenure eligible in Media, Policy and Justice.

AU SOC is seeking an established thought-leader in the field of Communication or related fields, with a strong record of scholarly publication and/or funding. It is interested in candidates whose research focuses on the impact of media or communication on fundamental rights, particularly with regard to marginalized, disenfranchised and traditionally under-represented groups.

Furthermore, the ideal candidate will have experience serving as a bridge between these groups and the decisionmakers whose actions affect their lives, using rigorous research to explore existing policies and systems and to advance solutions for some of the many challenges that arise from today’s complex, multifaceted media and communications landscape.

The position is located within the Communication Studies division at SOC, which houses a highly competitive doctoral program, as well as a research-focused undergraduate program and a Masters in Global Media program. The position will be vital to advising, mentoring and teaching students within the undergraduate and graduate programs, and will also be integral to the leadership of the graduate programs.
